Ray Laughlin

“When I think of St. Margaret Foundation, I think of my life.”

The day had unfolded like any other typical day for Ray Laughlin. He wrapped up his office duties and went to the gym for his regular after-work run on the treadmill. But as the run ended and he started walking to cool down, his world went black. He collapsed, unconscious, the victim of cardiac arrest.

Moments became precious. If Ray were to survive the attack, action needed to be taken immediately – but how? Fortunately for Ray on that anything-but-typical day, the gym had an Automated Emergency Defibrillator (AED) unit nearby.

“They put the electrodes on me, gave me four shocks to revive me, and got me in the ambulance,” he said. “Without that AED, I wouldn’t be here today. St. Margaret Foundation is a great community resource – just look at how many lives the AED program has saved. To me, I can’t repay them enough, to be here today like this. When I think of St. Margaret Foundation, I think of my life.”
