St. Margaret Foundation’s Funding Priorities and Principles

Requesting a Grant:  A request is made for a grant or program-related investment by completing a letter of intent to determine whether the Foundation’s present interests and funds permit consideration of the request.  The deadline for grant requests for the 2011 fiscal year (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011),  is March 1, 2010.

Letter of Intent:  Along with a cover letter, prepare a one-to-three page summary that clearly addresses the following:

  1. Organization Information
    A. Name and Address
    B. Contact Person
    C. Phone Number and E-mail
    D. Mission Statement
    E. Summary of Organization’s History
    F. Overview of Current Programs
  2. Purpose of Requested Grant
    A. Description of Proposed Program
    B. Detailed Budget for Program
    C. Identify Need, Target Population, and Number of People to be Served
    D. Is the Project New or a Continuation of an Existing Program?
    E. How will program be sustained after grant?
     3.     Additional Partnerships
             A. Identify other organizations, if any, involved with the project
             B. Describe their logistic and financial commitment and roles
    4.     Implementation timetable from conception to completion
    5.     Plan for documenting progress and evaluating results

Organization Information (This information should accompany your letter of intent): 
A Community Grant Request Form should be completed by all community applicants and submitted with a letter of intent. 

A UPMC St. Margaret Grant Request Form should be completed by all UPMC St. Margaret applicants and submitted with a letter of intent.

Common Grant Application Form

For grants over $25,000 and/or long-term, the Common Grant Application Form will need to be followed and completed. Common Grant Application can be e-mailed, faxed or mailed to St. Margaret Foundation.  Download the Common Grant Application Format.

The Foundation does not support the following:

  • organizations without IRS tax-exempt status
  • organizations outside of the communities that UPMC St. Margaret reaches
  • programs without a healthcare component
  • endowment programs
  • operating deficits or retirement of debt
  • political campaigns
  • special events

Reporting on a Grant:

When reporting on a grant, please use this Common Report Format as a guide. The reports are due by January 7 and July 7.
