Can you be the friend who helps patients in need get back to living their lives?

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. You’re going about your life and suddenly you are hit with a diagnosis you never imagined and can barely understand. Terms such as ‘prognosis,’ ‘treatment plan’ and ‘side effects’ are now part of your daily conversations. Our patients tell us that when you’re sick, fear of the unknown is debilitating enough without having to worry if you have a ride to chemotherapy or if you can pay for expensive medicine, home oxygen, hearing aids, insulin, walkers and other items not covered by insurance and that most of us take for granted.

Dr. Sean Whelan, chief of general surgery at UPMC St. Margaret, shares about the impact your gift can have on patients in need.
